MANILA, Philippines – Former President Corazon Aquino, who swept away a dictator with a “people power” revolt and sustained democracy by fighting off seven coup attempts in six years, died on Saturday, her son said. She was 76.
The uprising she led in 1986 ended the repressive 20-year regime of Ferdinand Marcos and inspired nonviolent protests across the globe, including those that ended communist rule in eastern Europe. Aquino rose to power after the 1983 assassination of her husband, opposition leader Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.

The CIT College of Computer Studies Team bagged the top prize and earned for themselves and the institution the title, Country’s Champion, during the Sun Microsystem’s Open Jive Challenge ‘09. The prestigious event was held at the Technological Institute of the Philippines, Quezon City on July 18, 2009.
CCS Students – Lawrence Ranario, Jufni Rizada and Eugene Busico with coach IT Department Chair Larmie Santos-Feliscuzo – garnered the “Best Team from the Visayas” award during the 2nd Philippine National Inter-Collegiate Programming competition held at the University of San Jose-Recoletos Basak Campus last November 22, 2008.
